Pieces by Douglas Hawley

Introduction

Douglas Hawley is a quiet, very private man now (2011) in late middle age. He writes a little, but has not had a great deal published. Attached to this page are some hitherto unpublished pieces.

The first piece might go some way to explaining the writer's personality. It also highlights how much communications have improved since the 70s. When I lived abroad in the 60s, I never phoned home, because it was a cumbersome business and very expensive. These days people have email and mobile phones. And if you wonder whether they ever met again, well no, they did not, although they corresponded for some years.

Friends no doubt know that I sometimes talk about being old and tired. Perhaps the second piece is where I got the expression from.
