Here is a map of the area covered by the Community, to compare with the extent of the Low Dietsch strip (Platdietse streek). Although speaking dialects similar to those of the communes to their east, the communes of the Low Dietsch strip were part of Belgium from its creation, whereas those that form the German Community were part of Prussia until the First World War.
